From Day One, we’ve shared how Monterey Motorsport Park will be more than a collection of dusty storage units like a typical mini-storage facility. Rather, it will be a collection of exclusive garage-condos, customized by dedicated car enthusiasts and owners who are part of a vibrant car community.
As part of building that community spirit, Monterey Motorsport Park has become actively involved in a number of local charities — even before the community opens later this fall.
Raising Funds for Northern California Special Olympics
One of those activities is Police in Pursuit (PIP) — a car-driven fundraiser in which local law enforcement officers race their “souped-up” retired patrol vehicles at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville. The 15-lap competition around the 1/4-mile dirt oval is loads of fun and comes with bragging rights and a trophy. But most importantly, it raises funds so that special athletes from throughout Northern California can follow their dreams in athletic pursuits.
Monterey Motorsport Park recently made a donation to Special Olympics that brought with it title sponsorship of a car driven by Detective Dan Anderson with the San Jose Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit. Although relatively new to track-driving, Detective Dan pulled off a stunning come-from-behind victory in the June PIP feature race at Ocean Speedway. More details are in the photo caption below.
Contributing to Other Worthy Causes
Monterey Motorsport Park has also gotten involved in raising funds for other extraordinarily worthwhile organizations, such as Bridge Culinary, which caters local events while providing money to help fund vital programs for the Bridge Restoration Ministry of Pacific Grove. In addition, a Car Week invitation-only fundraiser will benefit SNIP — the Spay Neuter Imperative Project — which offers below-cost, mobile spay and neuter services to pet owners in Monterey and San Benito Counties.
“We’re committed to being part of the fabric of the community,” said Ralph Borelli, co-founder and a member of the development team. “With long-time area residents such as Gordon McCall of McCall Events — who will be locating his business and bringing his personal collections here — and many other local owners, we’re pleased to feel so accepted on the Monterey Peninsula.”
Buildings Are Rising Quickly
Construction is continuing at a rapid pace in the summer months at Monterey Motorsport Park. When it opens in Q4, the community will feature:
- Spacious mezzanines above the garage floor in each unit, for owners who want to create a personal office, leisure or recreational space — or just for extra storage
- Oversized roll-up doors for easily moving vehicles into and out of your garage-condo
- A separate walk-in door for you and your guests
- Soaring ceilings in each unit to as much as 25 feet
- Access-controlled entry to the community, with video surveillance and proactive remote guarding services
- High-speed fiber optic Internet and cable TV options for each unit
